Congressman Frank Pallone
Congressman Frank Pallone is setting up a spiral to move Pakistan further into darkness. He is talking about sanctions and also working on calling Pakistan a terrorist state (H.R. 5150: DEMOCRACY SANCTIONS AGAINST PAKISTAN.) Pakistanis not responding to him is basically giving him more strength and sending him a message, that he is supporting and listening to ONLY one view and he is becoming more powerful and there is NO ONE out there who cares or thinks other wise. Please take ACTION and send a letter to Frank Pallone NOW

All Pakistani Americans, and people of conscience are requested to call or email their congressperson to vote against the bill. I am writing a sample letter and you may use the letter or use it as talking points. Please do this, it is important for Pakistan. Congressmen are greatly affected by the input of their constituents.

You can use following pointers in your e-mail

Dear Congressman:

I am writing to urge you to vote against the Democracy sanctions against Pakistan bill (H.R. 5150: DEMOCRACY SANCTIONS AGAINST PAKISTAN) introduced by Congressman Frank Pallone (D. NJ). on July 17th, 2002

  • Pakistan has been our key ally in the war against terrorism, and President Musharraf at great personal risk to him and to the stability of Pakistan has made a commitment to eradicate militancy from Pakistan.
  • He is going to hold elections in October 2002, and is in the process now of listening to the people in terms of the make-up of the National Security Council and constitutional amendments.
  • Democracy is indeed greatly needed in Pakistan, and the United States should continue to propose its institution, in a co-operative and not a threatening tone.
  • Mr. Pallone's method of sticking Pakistan with sanctions is not the method, for Pakistan's economy, already  not the healthiest has suffered post 9/11 and if sanctions are imposed, it will suffer more. This will lead to greater unemployment and discontent and militants will be able to recruit more of the disenchanted in Pakistan.
  • Pakistan is in great need of humanitarian aid due to the Afghan refugee crisis, among others, and if this is withdrawn it will plunge the nation into a greater crisis.
  • Mr. Pallone is looking at the benefit of India and his own campaign coffers. You must look at the long term benefit of our nation, and how the stability of Pakistan is vital to our interests in South Asia and imposing sanctions will destabilize it.
  • Lastly anti-American sentiment will rise in Pakistan, and the moderate leader that it has in Musharraf could be replaced very quickly and before we know it Pakistan may become the official Al-Qaeda capital. Our battle with terrorism will most certainly have been lost then.
