Call US State Department To Protest
US Ambassador Nancy Powell's One-Sided Remarks and State Department's Pro India Policy

Pakistani American Democratic Forum (PADF) recently asked Pakistani Americans to communicate with the State Department and protest the recent remarks by Ambassador Nancy Powell.

Association of Pakistani Professionals (AOPP) applauds PADF for taking this initiative and ask all friends of Pakistan to call the US State Department 202-736-4325to protest US ambassador Nancy Powell's recent remarks as well as the emerging US policy on Kashmir and India Pakistan Relations.

On Jan 22, US ambassador Nancy J. Powell had told a group of businessmen that the Pakistan government must "ensure that its pledges are implemented to prevent infiltration across the Line of Control and end the use of Pakistan as a platform for terrorism".

Her remarks were partisan, one-sided, and showed a callous disregard for the suffering of the Kashmiri people. Today, the US State Department defended Ambassador Powell's speech and reiterated its one-sided views on Kashmir that are tantamount to unqualified support for India's position.

Talking Points:

The emerging US policy worries ME as a US citizen because:

  1. It ignores the People of Kashmir and their continued suffering.
  2. It denies the People of Kashmir their inextinguishable right to self-determination.
  3. It legitimizes India's occupation by sanctifying the line of control (LOC).
  4. It does not criticize or rebuke India for continued egregious human rights violations in Indian-occupied Kashmir.
  5. It makes no demand on India to hold good-faith negotiations with Pakistan and with the All Parties Hurriat Conference.
  6. It does not offer any creative solution, nor it entails a roadmap and a timetable.
  7. It does not help reduce the danger of nuclear conflict in South Asia.
  8. It fails to uphold international law including a number of UN Security Council resolutions and it does not uphold indivisibility of justice and inalienability of basic rights for all
  9. It condones Indian military's cruel and genocidal atrocities against unarmed civilians.
  10. It is unfair because it doesn't make the any demands on India. It actually rewards India despite India's refusal to accept Pakistan's repeated calls for high-level talks.
  11. It ignores India's state-condoned terrorism against its Muslim citizens. Just a few months ago, at least 1200 Muslims were massacred in Gujrat with the connivance of local authorities.
  12. It does not add to the credibility of the United States as an honest broker sincerely seeking to resolve an intractable dispute.
