Case 15

I arrived at the INS center at Oklahoma City at around 7:40 AM. There were two Hispanics at the center who had been waiting over there before me. Then two other Saudi students arrived. They let us in at around 8 AM. I was asked for my ID and then was told to enter my name in a log and I was given a paper to fill. That paper had all the regular questions asked. It was only a page long and in the end asked for three references. I filled the paper and dropped it in a drop window along with my passport. I had to wait for about 15 minutes. The interview was about 15-20 minutes too and I was out by 8:50 AM. The interviewing officer was courteous and asked for some identification documents. I showed drivers license, credit cards, school identification card etc. I was asked for my I-20 and approval of change of status. In the end I was given my FINS number which was written on my passport. My references were checked by making me pronounce the last name of a reference and I was asked in what relationship did I know the references. I was also asked to show proof of my current enrollment upon which I shown the payment slip from my school's bursar. I was also asked for the transcript after she saw it in my file of papers. I think it might have helped that I had a 4.0 GPA. The good thing was that the interviewing officer was not trying to act suspicious and show distrust. Instead questions were straight forward and no further questioning followed. She was also showing a new officer how to use the system. She gave me a list of the designated ports from which to leave. She told me that she was trying to make the process as less of an inconvenience as possible and she did a good job at that! I had entered at around 8AM and was out before 9AM, so it was fast, easy and hassle-free for me.
