Case 3

Date: Jan, 13th, 2003.

I went for Registration at Newark, NJ office on 13th. Although I was the second one to submit my passport but still the INS staff completed the process by 12:45 PM. So you can imagine how slow it was. Only 12 other Pakistani's showed up for registration in that office. Most of them had
either H1 or F type visas.

In Newark office the special registration people had priority and were taken in the building firs upon request to the staff. I was not aware of this and waited in the line outside the building with around 200 other people in -4 C for more than an hour. One might be able to avoid this grueling drill by checking up the policy of your local INS office.

The registration process was not the 100% the same for every one, but quite consistent. In my case, apart from Passport, I-797 & Company letter (which is pivotal) they took information about Parent's date/place of birth, nationality, address in Pakistan, names and addresses of some of the friends and relatives in US, ALL my Credit Cards, health card and even NID card (Pakistani) Otherwise the person did not ask any question and just entered information in the system very carefully which took almost 30 minutes.
