The US government has ended the NSEERS
(National Registration Entry Exit Program)
registration programme from Tuesday 02
December 2003. It would now be replaced with
the US VISIT programme (US
Visitor and Immigrant Status Indicator
Technology),
which would
become functional in phases starting from 05
January 2004.
As a consequence
Pakistani nationals who had registered under
NSEERS earlier would not repeat not
have to report to their local INS offices
after the 30-40 day or the one year
deadlines. However, all such community
members MUST repeat MUST
re-register while exiting the United States.
Under the US
VISIT programme, nationals of all countries
requiring visas to enter the United States,
including all Pakistani nationals, would be
fingerprinted and photographed upon entry
into the United States. Similarly, they
would also be fingerprinted upon exiting the
United States.
The Embassy requests Pakistani nationals to
keep logging on to the Embassy website,
www.embassyofpakistan.org
for updates on new immigration regulations
and also to contact their local USICE (US
Immigration and Customs Enforcement) or
USCIS (US Citizenship and Immigration
Service) offices for information about new
regulations.
