The Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) is
providing free legal services to the Asian, Muslim, Middle Eastern, and North
African communities affected by the INS Special Registration Program. Below is
an updated list of services:

We are providing legal consultations with an AALDEF staff
attorney via telephone. If you know of someone who has questions regarding
Special Registration, please feel free to have them call AALDEF at 212-966-6030
x 203 or 212-966-5932 x 213. Urdu and Bangla interpretation are available.

We have prepared informational flyers on registration for the
Pakistani, Bangladeshi, Korean, and Indonesian communities, all of which are
currently being translated. To obtain a copy of the Pakistani, Indonesian, or
Korean Registration flyers by fax or e-mail, please contact Saurav Sarkar at
the number listed below. To obtain a copy of the Bangladeshi Registration flyer
by fax or e-mail, please contact Krittika Ghosh. The English versions
of these flyers can also easily be modified for other communities affected.

We are holding a series of legal clinics with local
community-based organizations directed at affected communities of the NY area.
These
clinics are designed to provide legal consultations to people affected by any
round of Special Registration, including the 3rd round
(Pakistanis and Saudis, Jan. 13, 2003 to Feb. 21, 2003), the 4th round
(Bangladeshis,
Kuwaitis, Egyptians, Jordanians, and Indonesians, Feb. 24, 2003 to March 28,
2003), and people from the 1st and 2nd rounds who have been given an extension
(Jan. 27, 2003 to Feb. 7, 2003).
Sunday, January 26, 2003, 3 to 6 p.m., in Jersey City, venue
TBA, with co-sponsor Coney Island Avenue Project. Interpretation will be
available in

Thursday, January 30, 2003, 6 to 8 p.m., in Midwood, Brooklyn, at the office of
the co-sponsoring organization, Council of Pakistan Organization, at
1081 Coney Island Avenue (take the Q train to Newkirk Ave in Brooklyn -- the
cross streets are Glenwood and Ave H). Interpretation will be available in Urdu

Saturday, February 1, 2003, 1 to 5 p.m. in the Church-Mcdonald Ave neighborhood
of Brooklyn, venue tbd. Interpretation will be provided in Bangla. Contact

Tuesday, February 4, 2003, 5 to 8 p.m. in Ozone Park/East NY, Brooklyn, venue

Sunday, February 9, 2003, 1 to 5 p.m., in Jackson Heights, Queens, at the
Jackson Heights office of Forest Hills Community House (74-09 37th
Avenue, Room 421), with co-sponsors Andolan and Desis Rising Up & Moving
(DRUM). Interpretation will be available in Urdu and Bangla. Contact Saurav

Saturday, March 1, 2003, 1 to 5 p.m., in Astoria, Queens, venue
tbd. Interpretation will be provided in Bangla. Contact Krittika Ghosh

Volunteers are needed to help with set-up, sign in, distribution of information
on hate crimes and detention, and oral translation into Urdu, Bangla, and other
languages that may be required (Arabic, Korean, Bahasa Indonesia, etc.). Pro
bono immigration attorneys are needed to provide legal consultations.
