Dear Mr. President,
As a registered voter and tax payer, I have to say
that I’m very disappointed in the recent decision of
the United States Department of Justice to include
Pakistan in the list of the countries whose citizens
are required to register with the INS. This decision
has not only come as shock to us but also is an eye
opener that the current administration has no regard
nor is it grateful for the support that our allies
have provided us with in our war against terror.
Pakistan has cooperated very closely with the United
States from day one in the war against terror and the
history of collaboration between Pakistan and the
United States spans over five decades. Pakistan has
worked very closely with the United States since its
independence and has indeed been a very reliable ally
especially during the Cold War and now with the war on
terrorism.
Pakistan has suffered very tremendously, financially
as well as politically, by supporting the United
States in the war against terror. Never the less,
Pakistan’s support to the United States has been
steadfast. Yet, we reward the great efforts and
sacrifices of the Government of Pakistan by
humiliating its citizens who visit the US legally.
This is unacceptable and an extremely irresponsible
decision.
I believe that decision of the US Department of
Justice to include Pakistan in the list of countries
whose citizens are required to register with the INS
is a mistake and will send the wrong message. The
people of Pakistan are our friends, and taking such
irresponsible actions and making decisions that will
alienate our allies should be reversed immediately.
