Pointers
  • This conflict threatens the coherence of the U.S led coalition for the War on Terror

  • A war between Pakistan and India would have catastrophic consequences for the U.S War on Terrorism. The U.S led effort will be doomed, and the entire region including Afghanistan will be engulfed in turmoil. Pakistani assets currently supporting our forces in Afghanistan and hunting Al-Qaeda in Pakistan would be diverted towards Pakistan's Eastern front

  • A war between Pakistan and India, would threaten the security of our forces in Afghanistan. Taking advantage of the chaos and crisis, Al-Qaeda and Taliban will surely regroup and threaten the new Afghan regime and coalition forces

  • Precious accomplishments and headway made against Al-Qaeda and Taliban would effectively be reversed, as Al-Qaeda will most surely thrive and benefit from this conflict

  • We feel that the US led War on Terror is an integral part of US National Security, and since a war between Pakistan and India threatens the desired goals and objective of this effort the US must step in and resolve this issue. The 56 year old dispute over Kashmir is no longer an issue between Pakistan and India, it is today a part of US National Security due to its link with the US War

  • The two countries have not and for obvious reasons will not be able to resolve this issue bilaterally. A third party is needed to mediate between them

  • UN Security Council has specific resolutions discussing the cause and solutions of this conflict. Both countries need to honor Kashmir specific UN Security Council Resolutions, and abide by the express wishes of the indigenous people of Jammu and Kashmir

  • With this whole situation the people of Kashmir are the ones suffering the most followed by all the people of Pakistan and India
  • As the current issue is alleged infiltration of people in the Indian occupied Kashmir, then the presence of an international force to watch, observe the truth to these allegation seems a common sense approach. We must support the presence of independent forces to observe the situation.
  • The Indian objective is get a secondary gain to deflect internal as well as external attention away from the recent massacres committed against the Indian Muslims in Gujrat, and killings of other minorities by activists of the ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)

  • The US goal at this time should not only include immediate diffusion of tension, but should include development of mechanisms to help resolve the core reason of Kashmir which is the central cause of the conflict.
