"A second massive wave of death (in Pakistan) will happen if we do not step up our efforts now. What is needed is an immediate and exceptional escalation of the global relief effort.....We thought the tsunami was as worse as it could get. This is worse." -  Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations

"In perhaps the starkest statement of need, there are not enough
cold-weather tents in the world to house what the International
Organization for Migration estimates to be up to 550,000 families left homeless by the quake." - New York Times front-page, October 21, 2005

Thank you for all your support, hard work and generous donations for the South Asian earthquake. Unfortunately, the situation continues to grow worse with the weather and inaccessible locations high-up in the mountains, which have trapped hundreds of thousands of people. With an estimated 60,000 dead, 70,000 wounded and 2.5 million rendered  homeless, the scale of the human tragedy is beyond comprehension.

The greatest immediate need today is for tents and winterized bedding.

1. Both CARE and IRC have the capacity, expertise and proficiency to  buy and deliver the critical supplies in a very short time.

2  Both organizations specialize in disaster relief and have been in existence for over 60 years.

3. Most importantly, these two organizations have a large international footprint, which gives them the ability to expand their relief effort exponentially as the need demands.

4. Both have set-up special URLs on our request for donating online to South Asian earthquake relief specifically to buy tents and winterized bedding.

The window to save the effected people in the devastated region is very short - barely, three weeks or up to November 10, 2005. We strongly urge you to please click on their website addresses above and donate generously NOW.  Your donations will be tax-deductible in the United States and may also be in other countries. ALSO please note that your donation to CARE and IRC may be eligible for matching funds by your employers so do let them know.
